Overview

This eleven-day journey brings together the very best of Kenya's wildlife and coastline in one seamless circuit. It begins in the legendary Masai Mara, where the vast open grasslands deliver some of Africa's most thrilling game viewing, then moves through the flamingo-fringed shores of Lake Nakuru, the tranquil papyrus lakes of Naivasha, the elephant-and-Kilimanjaro drama of Amboseli, and the rugged wilderness of Taita Hills and Tsavo West, before a scenic ride on the Standard Gauge Railway sweeps you down to the coast for three nights of rest and relaxation at Diani Beach.

Itineraries like this are rare in that they genuinely do justice to both the bush and the beach, giving each destination the time it deserves rather than rushing through. Arrive at each lodge in time for lunch, settle in, and let the afternoon unfold at its own pace.

Tour Schedule

DAY 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
Keekorok Lodge

Morning: Depart Nairobi after breakfast and drive southwest towards the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya's most celebrated wildlife destination. The road descends through the Great Rift Valley before opening onto the sweeping Mara plains.

Lunch: Arrive at Keekorok Lodge in time for lunch. One of the oldest and most storied lodges in the Mara, Keekorok sits in the heart of the reserve with a resident hippo pool right on its doorstep.

Afternoon: Afternoon game drive across the Mara's open grasslands; lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and giraffe are reliably sighted, and depending on the season the wildebeest migration may be in full swing.

Evening: Sundowners on the plains as the Mara sky blazes at dusk. Dinner and overnight at Keekorok Lodge.

Meal Plan: Lunch and dinner

DAY 2: Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve
Keekorok Lodge
Morning: After breakfast, depart Keekorok Lodge with packed lunches for a full day out in the Masai Mara. With the whole day ahead and no reason to rush back, this is game driving at its most rewarding, following predators through the morning hunt, watching elephant families move across the plains, and letting the Mara reveal itself hour by hour.

Lunch: Packed lunch in true bush style, a picnic setting beneath a shady croton tree in the heart of the Mara. One of those simple, unhurried moments that stays with you long after the safari is over.

Afternoon: Continue game driving through the afternoon as the light softens and the plains come alive again. The Mara Triangle and Talek River corridor are particularly productive for big cat sightings in the late afternoon, and lion prides are often most active as the heat of the day fades.

Evening: As dusk settles over the Mara, make your way back to Keekorok Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

DAY 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park
Sarova Woodlands Hotel

Morning: After breakfast, depart Keekorok and drive north through the Rift Valley towards Lake Nakuru, a soda lake famous for its vast flocks of flamingos and one of Kenya's best rhino sanctuaries.

Lunch: Arrive at Sarova Woodlands Hotel in time for lunch, set within indigenous woodland on the edge of Nakuru town.

Afternoon: A relaxed afternoon at leisure, enjoy the hotel's facilities, take a stroll through the woodland gardens, or unwind after two days of game driving. No afternoon game drive today.

Evening: Dinner and overnight at Sarova Woodlands Hotel.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

DAY 4: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha
Naivasha Country Club

Morning: After breakfast, depart Sarova Woodlands and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for a morning game drive. Explore the lake shores and forested hillsides in search of white and black rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo and the iconic pink carpet of flamingos along the water's edge. Game drive continues until mid-morning before departing for Naivasha.

Lunch: Arrive at Naivasha Country Club in time for lunch, a classic colonial-era property set in lush gardens right on the shores of Lake Naivasha.

Afternoon: Board a boat for a cruise across Lake Naivasha, drifting past hippo pods, fish eagles and a spectacular variety of waterbirds through the papyrus beds. Land on Crescent Island for a guided walking safari; with no predators present, you walk freely among giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, Thomson's gazelle and waterbuck at remarkably close range.

Evening: Return to the club for dinner and overnight at Naivasha Country Club.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

DAY 5: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park
Amboseli Sopa Lodge

Morning: After breakfast, depart Naivasha and drive south towards Amboseli, crossing through the dramatic Rift Valley landscape as Mount Kilimanjaro gradually comes into view on the horizon.

Lunch: Arrive at Amboseli Sopa Lodge in time for lunch. The lodge commands sweeping views across the park towards Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak and Amboseli's unforgettable backdrop.

Afternoon: Afternoon game drive in Amboseli, home to some of Africa's largest and most studied elephant herds. The open swamps and floodplains draw extraordinary concentrations of wildlife, and photographing elephants with Kilimanjaro behind them is one of the great bucket-list moments in African safari.

Evening: Dinner under a vast sky and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

DAY 6: Full day at Amboseli National Park
Amboseli Sopa Lodge

Morning: A relaxed morning at the lodge. Kilimanjaro is often clearest at dawn before cloud builds, so enjoy the view from the terrace over an unhurried breakfast.

Lunch: Lunch at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Afternoon: Full afternoon game drive exploring Amboseli's varied habitats, from the dusty yellow fever tree woodlands to the lush Enkongo Narok swamp. Lion, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and giraffe all feature regularly alongside the resident elephant herds.

Evening: Final evening in Amboseli, dinner and second overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

DAY 7: Amboseli to Taita Hills / Tsavo West
Salt Lick Lodge

Morning: After breakfast, depart Amboseli and drive towards the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private conservancy bordering Tsavo West National Park.

Lunch: Arrive at Salt Lick Lodge in time for lunch. One of Kenya's most architecturally distinctive safari lodges, Salt Lick is built on stilts above a series of watering holes, giving guests a front-row view of wildlife coming and going at all hours.

Afternoon: Afternoon game drive through the sanctuary and into Tsavo West, a vast wilderness of ancient lava flows, volcanic hills and thorn-scrub. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and a wide variety of plains game make up the resident wildlife.

Evening: As night falls, the watering holes beneath the lodge come alive, watch the procession of wildlife from your room or the viewing platforms. Dinner and overnight at Salt Lick Lodge.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

DAY 8: Tsavo West to Diani Beach
Swahili Beach Resort

Morning: After breakfast, check out of Salt Lick Lodge and transfer to Voi Railway Station to board the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train to Mombasa. Sit back and enjoy the scenery as the train passes through Tsavo on one of Kenya's great rail journeys.

Afternoon: Arrive in Mombasa and transfer south along the coast to Diani Beach, one of East Africa's finest stretches of white sand, fringed by swaying palms and the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

Late Afternoon: Arrive at Swahili Beach Resort and settle in. The rest of the day is entirely at your leisure: swim, snorkel, or simply exhale on the beach after a week in the bush.

Evening: Dinner and first overnight at Swahili Beach Resort.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and dinner

DAY 9: Diani Beach
Swahili Beach Resort

A full day at leisure on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Swahili Beach Resort offers a beautiful pool, direct beach access, watersports, and a spa, there is no agenda today beyond relaxing and soaking up the coast. Dinner and overnight at Swahili Beach Resort.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and dinner

Swahili Beach Resort

Another day entirely at your disposal. Consider a snorkelling excursion to the coral reef, a dhow cruise along the coast, a visit to the Colobus Conservation centre nearby, or simply another unhurried day on the beach. Dinner and final overnight at Swahili Beach Resort.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and dinner

DAY 11: Diani Beach → Mombasa → Departure
