Overview

Kenya Safari: 8 Days of Wilderness, Wonder & Wildlife

From the sun-dappled acacia groves of Laikipia to the world-famous plains of the Maasai Mara, Kenya is a country that rewards the curious traveller at every turn. This carefully crafted 8-day journey takes you through five of Kenya's most breathtaking destinations, each with its own distinct character, its own cast of wildlife, and its own way of stealing your heart.

Begin your adventure at the renowned Sweetwaters Serena Camp, where chimpanzees and rhinos roam a private conservancy on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Move on to Lake Nakuru, a soda lake that turns pink with flamingos and shelters both black and white rhinos. The journey then sweeps you south to the legendary Maasai Mara for two nights of big-cat encounters and endless golden savannah. A peaceful interlude at Lake Naivasha offers boat rides, walking safaris, and the chance to spot hippos at close range, before you conclude in style at Kibo Safari Camp in Amboseli, where elephants drift across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro as your backdrop.

This is Kenya as it was meant to be experienced: unhurried, immersive, and utterly unforgettable.

Tour Schedule

Day 1 -  Arrival & Sweetwaters Serena Camp, Laikipia
Accommodation: Sweetwaters Serena Camp (1 night)

Your safari begins upon arrival in Nairobi, where your driver-guide will meet you for the scenic transfer north to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, home to the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and the last two northern white rhinos on earth. Arrive at Sweetwaters Serena Camp in time for lunch, then check in and freshen up before heading out on your first afternoon game drive across the conservancy. Lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and a remarkable variety of plains game roam freely across the open grasslands. As the sun sets over the Aberdare Range, gather at the camp's floodlit watering hole for a magical evening before dinner under the stars.

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2 - Sweetwaters to Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge
Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge (1 night)

Rise early for a morning game drive across Ol Pejeta before returning to camp for a full breakfast. Depart the conservancy and travel west through Kenya's scenic Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at the comfortable Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge in time for lunch. The afternoon is spent on a game drive around the lake's famous shores, scanning the pink-tinged waters for flamingos and pelicans, and the surrounding forest for the park's celebrated rhino population. Lions and leopards are also regularly spotted here, making Nakuru a compact but thrillingly productive wildlife destination. Return to the lodge for dinner as the Rift Valley settles into dusk.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 - Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara Sarova Camp
Accommodation: Mara Sarova Safari Camp (2 nights)

Rise early for a final morning game drive at Lake Nakuru before returning for breakfast and checking out. The journey south takes you through the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley and into the sweeping Mara ecosystem, arriving at the iconic Mara Sarova Safari Camp in time for lunch. Beautifully positioned on the banks of the Mara River, the camp is perfectly placed for game viewing and, in season, the drama of the wildebeest river crossings. Refreshed and ready, head out for an afternoon game drive across the golden plains, tracking lion prides, cheetahs, and the great herds of wildebeest and zebra before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 - Full Day in the Maasai Mara
Accommodation: Mara Sarova Safari Camp

Today belongs entirely to the Maasai Mara. Set out at dawn for an exhilarating morning game drive when predators are at their most active, tracking lions, leopards, and cheetahs across the endless golden grasslands. As midday approaches, your guide will lead you to a shaded spot beneath a croton tree for a classic bush picnic lunch, served in true safari style with the sights and sounds of the Mara all around you. The afternoon drive continues deeper into the ecosystem, following the great herds along the Mara River and watching for the breathtaking river crossings where thousands of wildebeest brave crocodile-filled waters. Optional hot-air balloon safaris are available at sunrise (bookable at an additional cost). Return to the lodge later in the evening for dinner.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha, Simba Lodge
Accommodation: Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge (1 night)

Early in the morning, after breakfast, check out and begin the drive north back through the Rift Valley to the freshwater shores of Lake Naivasha, arriving at Simba Lodge in time for lunch. Set within lush gardens right on the lake's edge, the lodge offers a serene contrast to the open plains of the Mara. The afternoon brings a welcome change of pace; enjoy an included boat ride across the glassy waters, watching hippos yawn in the shallows, and hundreds of bird species nestle in the papyrus reeds. Your package also includes a guided walking safari on Crescent Island, where you'll explore on foot among giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest with no barriers between you and the wildlife, a rare and truly exhilarating experience. Return to the lodge for dinner as the sun dips behind the Rift Valley escarpment.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 - Lake Naivasha to Amboseli, Kibo Safari Camp
Accommodation: Kibo Safari Camp, Amboseli (2 nights)

Depart Lake Naivasha after breakfast for the drive south to Amboseli National Park, crossing the vast Rift Valley floor towards the Tanzanian border. Arrive at Kibo Safari Camp in time for lunch, then head straight out on your first afternoon game drive through Amboseli's famous open plains. Amboseli is renowned above all for its great elephant herds, some of the largest and most studied in Africa, and for the breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the swamps and acacia woodland. As the sun dips, watch elephants silhouetted against Africa's highest peak in one of the continent's most iconic scenes, before returning to camp for dinner.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 - Full Day in Amboseli
Accommodation: Kibo Safari Camp, Amboseli

Rise at dawn for an exhilarating morning game drive across Amboseli's open plains, tracking elephant herds, lion, cheetah, and the graceful Maasai giraffe against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Return to camp for a well-earned breakfast, then spend the late morning and early afternoon at your leisure,  relax by the pool, soak in the Kilimanjaro views, or unwind and let the sights and sounds of the bush wash over you. After lunch at the lodge, head back out for afternoon game drives, exploring the Enkongo Narok swamp where elephant, buffalo, and hippo gather in abundance, and keeping an eye out for leopard in the acacia woodland. As the day draws to a close, raise a glass to an unforgettable safari at a sundowner on the plains, with Kilimanjaro glowing in the last light of the day, before returning to camp for a final dinner beneath the African sky.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8 - Amboseli Departure and back to Nairobi

Wake for one last sunrise game drive across Amboseli's sweeping plains before a leisurely breakfast and check-out. Begin the drive north towards Nairobi, stopping along the way for lunch before continuing to your final destination. Whether you're connecting to an onward flight at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or settling into a hotel of your choice within Nairobi, you'll arrive with memories that will last a lifetime: the rumble of a lion at dusk, the thunder of a thousand hooves at the Mara River, and the impossible beauty of elephants beneath Kilimanjaro.
