Tour Schedule

DAY 1: Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park
Ashnil Aruba Lodge

Morning: Depart Mombasa after breakfast for the drive inland into Tsavo East, Kenya's largest national park. The landscape opens into vast, semi-arid plains where herds of dust-red elephants roam alongside giraffe, zebra, and the striking fringe-eared oryx.

Lunch: Arrive at Ashnil Aruba Lodge, beautifully positioned beside the Aruba Dam, one of East Africa's finest wildlife watering points. Enjoy lunch with views over the dam and its resident hippos and crocodiles.

Afternoon: Afternoon game drive around Aruba Dam and the surrounding plains, where large herds congregate particularly in the dry season. Look out for the famous Tsavo lions; the males here are notably maneless.

Evening: Sundowners overlooking the dam as elephants come to drink at dusk. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

DAY 2: Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park
Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

Morning: After breakfast, depart Ashnil Aruba and cross into Tsavo West. The terrain shifts dramatically, from open plains into a world of ancient lava flows, volcanic hills, and dense thorn-scrub.

Lunch: Arrive at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge for a leisurely lunch. Sit out on the terrace and keep an eye on the watering hole, elephant, buffalo and plains game come and go throughout the day.

Afternoon: Afternoon game drive through Tsavo West's dramatic scenery, including the famous Mzima Springs where hippos wallow in crystal waters fed by underground streams from Kilimanjaro, and the chance to spot lion, leopard and black rhino.

Evening: Return to the lodge for sundowners at the watering hole, dinner, and overnight at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.

DAY 3: Tsavo West to Amboseli National Park
Oltukai Lodge

Morning: After breakfast, depart Kilaguni Serena for the scenic drive to Amboseli. The road crosses open plains with Mount Kilimanjaro,  Africa's highest peak, gradually filling the horizon ahead of you.

Lunch: Arrive at Oltukai Lodge in time for lunch. The lodge sits in the heart of Amboseli beneath ancient acacia trees, with sweeping views of Kilimanjaro directly from the dining terrace.

Afternoon: Your first game drive in Amboseli, home to some of Africa's largest elephant herds. The park's open swamps and marshes draw extraordinary concentrations of wildlife, and the combination of elephants moving against the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro is one of the most iconic images in Africa.

Evening: Dinner under the stars and overnight at Oltukai Lodge.

DAY 4: Full day in Amboseli National Park
Oltukai Lodge

Morning: A leisurely morning at the lodge, relax by the pool or stroll the grounds. Kilimanjaro is often clearest in the early morning before the clouds build, making for spectacular photography from the lodge itself.

Lunch: Lunch at Oltukai Lodge, taking in the midday light on the mountain.

Afternoon: Full afternoon game drive exploring Amboseli's diverse habitats, from the open floodplains and swamps of Enkongo Narok to the dusty yellow fever tree woodlands. Lions, cheetahs, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe all make regular appearances alongside the resident elephants.

Evening: Return to the lodge for dinner and a second overnight at Oltukai Lodge.

DAY 5: Amboseli to Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort

Morning: After breakfast, depart Amboseli and drive north through the Great Rift Valley escarpment towards Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake in the floor of the Rift Valley.

Lunch: Arrive at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort for lunch, set within beautifully manicured grounds right on the lake shore.

Afternoon: Boat ride on Lake Naivasha, drift among papyrus beds and spot hippos, fish eagles, kingfishers, cormorants, and a host of waterbirds. Your boat glides to Crescent Island, where a guided walking safari awaits. With no predators on the island, you walk freely among giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, Thomson's gazelle and waterbuck at close quarters, a truly intimate wildlife encounter on foot.

Evening: Return to the resort for dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort.

DAY 6: Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara National Reserve
Ashnil Mara Camp

Morning: After breakfast, depart Lake Naivasha and drive west into the Masai Mara, the Kenyan extension of the Serengeti ecosystem and one of the world's greatest wildlife reserves.

Lunch: Arrive at Ashnil Mara Camp, a well-appointed tented camp nestled in the Mara landscape. Enjoy lunch and settle into your tent before the afternoon begins.

Afternoon: Your first afternoon game drive across the Mara's open grasslands. The reserve is famous for the Big Five, and year-round populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo mean sightings are consistently excellent. Depending on the season, the dramatic wildebeest migration may be underway.

Evening: Sundowners on the plains as the vast Mara sky turns gold and crimson. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.

DAY 7: Full day at Masai Mara National Reserve
Ashnil Mara Camp

Pre-Dawn: Hot air balloon safari, an experience unlike any other in Africa. Rise before dawn and float silently over the Mara as the sun lifts above the horizon, illuminating the plains below. From your vantage point in the sky, the landscape unfolds in every direction, herds moving at first light, predators returning from the night, the Mara River snaking through the bush.

Morning: After landing, a traditional bush breakfast is served in the wilderness, a perfect way to round off the balloon experience before returning to camp.

Lunch: Return to Ashnil Mara Camp for a relaxed lunch. Rest or explore the camp surroundings during the quieter midday hours.

Afternoon: Afternoon game drive; use the hours to follow up on any sightings from the morning or seek out specific wildlife. The Mara Triangle and Talek River areas are particularly productive for big cat activity in the late afternoon.

Evening: Final dinner under the canopy of stars, with the sounds of the Mara at night all around. Overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.

DAY 8: Masai Mara back to Nairobi
Drop-off: JKIA or Preferred Hotel

Morning: After a final breakfast at Ashnil Mara Camp, check out and begin the drive back towards Nairobi, passing through the Great Rift Valley with its spectacular escarpment views.

Lunch: Lunch stop at a local restaurant en route, a chance to savour some authentic Kenyan cuisine and stretch your legs before the final leg of the journey. Your guide will recommend the best spot along the road.

Afternoon: Continue the drive into Nairobi, arriving in the mid to late afternoon depending on road conditions.

Drop-off: Drop off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) or your preferred Nairobi hotel, bringing this unforgettable eight-day journey to a close.
